I would like to start a statement with a question: have you ever been taught how to deal with a negative emotion when they arrive?
Most likely, no. All of us, since we were born, we have been taught how to take care of our physical health, therefore, when it comes to mental health, little or nothing, is understood about it. In fact, there is a huge misconception and stigma towards people seeking support from mental health professionals.
We live in a society that can overwhelm us, particularly our younger generation. From family, to social media, to school, and to peer pressure.
Our young adults must do and be better than us. We tend to label them by calling them irresponsible, disrespectful, lazy, aggressive, millennial, and so forth.
There is a fine line between stress and school performance. It affects student’s life and it is responsible for school absenteeism, health problems, challenging behaviour, depression, lack of sleep, emotional disorders, just to name a few.
In the midst of a world pandemic, where the mask is covering up our smile, with student interaction limited, the fear to cough or sneeze without your colleagues shuddering in disgust, the fear of uncertainty, are taking over. More than ever, it is time to prioritize your wellbeing.
Aware of this, we have decided to create this course to support students with their mental health, to perform and achieve better grades, build their confidence/self-esteem and be the best they can be.
